Subject: TC Youth Winter Retreat 2006
Dear Parents of Tinker’s Creek,
Looking out the window as I write this, it seems like we really will have a “Winter” Retreat this weekend. Has spring left us so soon?
I’m excited about this weekend. Even though there’s only one student officially signed up. The four staff that are going are going to have a great time with Mickey. I’ll tell you what, student to staff ratios don’t get better than that. ;) Just kidding, I know there are a lot more coming that just haven’t turned in their forms. Just a reminder though, (a reminder assuming your kids told you this) registration forms and fees are due by Wed night this week. I need a day or two to make sure I have enough people to drive and make sure we have enough food.
The details:
We’ll meet at the church office, as usual, at 6:30pm Fri night and leave about 6:45pm. Make sure they eat before they come, we’ll have snacks that night but not a meal. I tried to put most things that they’ll need on the registration brochure but there are a few critical things to bring: sleeping bag and pillow, Bible, medical release form and Camp Carl activity release form. If students have any medication they need to take please let me know spcifically just so I'm aware. Other than that just stuff they would need for a weekend away. Make sure they don’t bring things like Ipod’s, MP3 players, cell phones and the like, the point of the ‘retreat’ is to get away from all of that and get to know each other and learn more about God.
We’re going to be talking about the spiritual gifts this weekend. When we talked about the Holy Spirit last fall we found out that it’s the Holy Spirit that gives those gifts. This also ties in with Dave’s sermon on our core value of service. We’ll look at how even young believers can use their gifts in the body. Camp also has an indoor ropes course that we'll do Saturday afternoon, as well as other activities through the weekend.
Several families in the church have graciously volunteered to bring meals for the weekend, so we’ll be eating good. That also helps to keep the cost down. It’s also nice going to Camp Carl because I have connections there. :) I’m keeping the cost as low as I can but if money is an issue, please give me a call, I want everyone to be able to come. Retreats are some of the best times to get to know each other and build memories that last a lifetime.
We’ll all be back for the service on Sunday morning at the high school so you can pick them up right after the service.
Let me know if you have any questions. I'll have extra forms Wed night if they never made it home.
